Terminology Change

As Skate Canada works to improve equity, diversity and inclusion in our sport, we have begun to identify items that need corrective action. We will be changing our terminology for the steps currently identified as a Mohawk and Choctaw for all domestic applications. This revision works toward the decolonizing of our terminology and aligns with our commitment to anti-racism.

The new terms both correspond to the tracing on the ice that is left when these steps are performed. The terminology changes are:

Mohawk to a C Step
Choctaw to a S Step
We have begun the process of changing these terms in all our resources and will work with our stakeholders to change this language in any previously published materials.

Skate Canada is committed to working with all members of our community to improve the state of our sport, so truly everyone can embrace the joy of skating.
