2020/2021 Competitive Season

As the 2020/2021 competitive season is beginning, the one thing we know for sure is it’s going to look different than previous years. Events (competitions, simulations, assessment days) are going to be modified, executed remotely or canceled/postponed all together. What we do know is at the forefront will be the health and safety of all Skate Canada – Saskatchewan members.

Skate Canada National has had to make the difficult decision to severely alter Challenge 2021 slated for November 23-29 in Edmonton (pending approval from the Government of Alberta), and the following has been decided:

  • 2021 Skate Canada Challenge will be held in Edmonton (Pending approval from the Government of Alberta) for all disciplines (Women, Men, Pairs, Ice Dance) of Junior and Senior competitors.
  • Pre-Novice and Novice competitors will not be at Challenge 2021. Due to the volume of competitors, logistically a decision had to be made in order to ensure that Junior and Senior skaters would be able to qualify for Nationals in order to keep them on track for Championship events in late winter/early spring (Four Continents, Junior Worlds, Worlds).
  • A Junior Canadian Nationals (name and date are TBD) will be held for Pre-Novice and Novice competitors (all disciplines) in Spring of 2021. More details will follow.

Based on the above decision, Skate Canada – Saskatchewan will be adjusting our planning and events for athletes for the 2020/2021 season. Here’s what we are proposing:

Junior and Senior competitors (all disciplines)

  • Team Saskatchewan Simulations (October 17th & 18th, 2020 in Moose Jaw)
  • Sectionals (November 6th – 8th, 2020 in Moose Jaw)
    • Exhibition – Junior Men, Junior Pairs, Senior Women and Senior Pairs
    • Competition – Junior Women
  • Challenge (November 23rd – 29th, 2020 in Edmonton - pending approval from the Government of Alberta.)
  • Nationals (January 11th – 17th, 2021 in Vancouver)

Pre-Novice and Novice competitors (all disciplines)

  • Team Saskatchewan Simulations (October 17th & 18th, 2020 in Moose Jaw)
  • Performance Opportunity (November 6th – 8th, 2020 in Moose Jaw)
  • Sectionals (January / February 2021)
    • Including Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile (all disciplines)
  • Junior Nationals (Spring 2021)

At this time, online registration for the Performance Opportunity (October 17th & 18th, 2020) and Sectionals (November 6th – 8th, 2020) will close while we prepare the online registration based on the revised competitive season. If competitors have already registered, the Section Office will be in contact with them.

Please note the above listed opportunities are subject to approval from the Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
