Alexandra Simon
Alex Simon truly embodies the Skate Canada theme of passion, spirit and triumph.
Alex's unique presentation and performance quality has made her a skating icon in
Saskatchewan.
Alex started skating at the age of four and has always had a flare for performing. Simon's
first coach was Sandra Nicholat of the Saskatoon Figure Skating Club. With Nicholat, Alex
won the 2003 BMO Sectional Championships in the Pre-Novice Ladies category. That year she
went on to qualify for the 2003 BMO Junior National Championships in Brampton, ON where
she placed 13th. In 2003, Simon was chosen to compete at the Canada Winter Games in Bathurst, NB
in the Pre-Novice Ladies event, where she placed 10th.
In 2004, Simon joined forces with Dale Hazell. At the 2006 BMO Sectional Championships,
Alex fought back after a disappointing 04/05 season to place 2nd in Junior Ladies. After
that, there was no stopping her! She qualified for the 2006 BMO Canadian Championships in
Ottawa, ON where she placed 14th. At the 2007 BMO Sectional Championships in Kindersley, Alex was back on
top in Saskatchewan, winning the Junior Ladies event. She ones again qualified for Canadians
and placed 13th at the event in Halifax, NS. This season she placed 1st at the BMO Sectional
Championships. Simon has been on the provincial team for seven consecutive seasons and was
elected to be one of the team captains for the 2006/2007 skating season.
Outside of skating, Alex enjoys fashion, reading, dance, cooking, and hanging out with
friends. She one day hopes to skate professionally for an ice show, and do choreography.
Simon also hopes to pursue a career in fashion design.
Alex, Skate Canada Saskatchewan would like to congratulate you on your amazing skating
career. Thank you for being such a positive role model for young athletes in our section!
