Schmitz and Taylor captured a Bronze Medal in their first Junior Grand Prix




September 9th, 2022 (Regina, SK) – Ashlyn Schmitz (Shellbrook SC) and Tristan Taylor (Skate Regina) captured bronze medal in their first Junior Grand Prix in Riga, Latvia.

Schmitz and Taylor along, with 9 other Canadian NextGen skaters that travelled to Riga, Latvia for the third Junior Grand Prix of the season from September 7 to September 10, 2022. The team included one entry in women as well as two in men, pair and ice dance. 

Schmitz and Taylor placed 3rd after the short program with a score of 40.21.  They remained third following their free program, scoring 73.19 for a total score of 113.40.

Following the free program, Taylor and Schmitz said “We had an amazing time representing Canada at our first Junior Grand Prix in Riga, Latvia. To come home with a bronze medal makes it all the better. We are so appreciative of our coaches, our clubs (Skate Regina and Shellbrook Skating Club) and Skate Saskatchewan for all they’ve done for us and for helping us achieve our first ever international medal."

The Saskatchewan-based duo of Schmitz and Taylor finished sixth at the 2022 Skate Canada Challenge.
